DISCOVER OUR STORY
The Staveley Arms is located in the historic village of North Stainley, North Yorkshire. Parts of the pub date back to the 1600s and pay homage to this bygone era.
The chef brigade is led by Dave Mathews. The team take great pride in producing contemporary dishes which reflect North Yorkshire’s heritage and have resulted in The Staveley Arms becoming known as one of the best pubs in the Yorkshire Dales.
The award-winning Staveley Arms team formerly ran The Bruce Arms in West Tanfield. They are a family pub team, with Dave’s wife Maggie and daughter Rose running front of house. Rose’s fiancé Jack trained as an apprentice under Dave and is now sous chef. The team opened the establishment in August 2020.
The Staveley Arms is owned by North Stainley Estate, one of the oldest and most diverse farming estates in the country. Reopening the pub during the pandemic was a risk, but the Estate wasn’t willing to forgo the chance to work with such a talented team. Not only has a brilliant family found a perfect new home, but North Stainley Estate has finally found a team that shares its own core values . These values centre on the importance of the customer, supporting our local community wherever possible and ultimately taking a sustainable approach to everything we do.
